# Categories

**Categories** lets you group products in the catalog and on the sales grid on the machine. A category has a name and an optional icon.

A category can then be edited in its detail. Deleting a category does not delete the products; it only removes the category from them.

On [import](/en/guides/navody/everyday-operation/import-produktu.md), the `category` column creates a missing category by name.
